Luxor Nursing and Rehab at Mills Pond on Getting Medical Care via Telemedicine

Telemedicine, doctor’s visits conducted over the phone or a video call on a computer or smartphone, have gained popularity over the past several years, but now with the threat of coronavirus, this is becoming the preferred method of conducting many medical appointments.

Avoiding unnecessary in-person trips to the doctor’s office can ensure that those who need care will receive it and also prevent you from being potentially exposed to this or other viruses.

Luxor Nursing and Rehab at Mills Pond has four tips for you to get the most out of your telemedicine visits

  • Prepare

Know what you want to say to the doctor before your call. You can either write down all the points you want to address or practice what you’re going to say. Make sure you know how to use all the pieces of technology that will be necessary to complete the visit.

  • Quiet Location

Either find a quiet part in your home or ask others in your house to keep the noise down. Noise distractions are harder to deal with over the phone or on a video call. You can also use headphones if privacy is a concern.

  • Provide Your Doctor With as Much Information as Possible

Let your doctor know about any changes in medical history and medications you are taking, just as you would for a normal visit. Also, collect as many of your vital signs as you can; take your temperature, record your pulse, and check your blood pressure if you have the equipment to do so.

  • Make Sure You’re Satisfied at the End of the Call

Be sure to ask questions, repeat information the doctor has given so you understand it, and agree on a treatment plan and follow-up before you hang up. You can either take notes yourself or have a family member sitting next to you do so.
