Luxor Nursing and Rehab at Mills Pond on Four Ways to Curb Coronavirus-Induced Anxiety

Between concerns over health and now the economy that’s taken a major hit over coronavirus concerns, there’s plenty to be anxious about these days.

Mental health, however, can be just as important as physical health. It’s vital not to get bogged down in never-ending waves of news about coronavirus, especially when that news is almost always negative right now (more cases, more restrictions, etc.).

Luxor Nursing and Rehab at Mills Pond is sharing four ways to cope during these stressful times

  • Live in the Moment

When there’s uncertainty, experts say that people tend to imagine worst-case scenarios instead of more positive outcomes. They say it’s important to stay present and not imagine bad things that haven’t happened.

  • Practice Social Distancing, Not Emotional Distancing

Just because we’re either being prohibited or discouraged (depending on where you live) from gathering, doesn’t mean that you have to live in isolation. Utilize technology to keep in contact with family and friends in order to not become emotionally isolated. Also be sure to interact more with people in your house – play a game, watch a movie, and try to take advantage of this extra time at home with family.

  • This Too Shall Pass

Expanding on No. 1 a bit, it’s important to maintain a positive mindset that these restrictions are only temporary. Previous generations got through several different crises, so we know that we can do it too.

  • Limit News Coverage

Not turning the TV off or constantly refreshing your social media feeds will lead to burnout, especially – as we said – when the majority of the message being received is “doom and gloom.” Check-in in the morning, and maybe at dinnertime to see what’s going on, get the latest updates, and try to move on to something more upbeat.
